The best large stainless steel trash cans combine enough capacity for daily waste with a lid and operating style that suits your household. For maximum capacity, consider the EKO Hudson, SONGMICS 20-gallon bin, or touchless EKO Mirage X. The Amazon Basics and EKO Madison models hold 13.2 gallons and offer more compact alternatives with step pedals. Compare capacity, lid operation, and cleaning features before choosing.
| Product | Capacity | Best For | Lid Style |
|---|---|---|---|
| EKO Hudson | 20 gallons | Fewer bag changes | Step pedal |
| SONGMICS | 20 gallons | Large households seeking quiet closure | Step pedal |
| EKO Mirage X | 21.1 gallons | Touch-free disposal | Motion sensor |
| Amazon Basics | 13.2 gallons | Everyday home or office use | Step pedal |
| EKO Madison | 13.2 gallons | Quiet, flexible waste sorting | Step pedal |
EKO Hudson 20-Gallon Step Trash Can
The EKO Hudson is best for households that want a high-capacity kitchen bin with foot-pedal operation. Its 20-gallon volume is intended to reduce how often bags need changing compared with smaller options in this selection. The matte stainless steel is described as fingerprint-resistant, a useful feature for a frequently handled appliance.
A rear compartment stores extra trash bags, keeping replacements close to the bin. The stainless steel foot pedal is designed for more than 200,000 uses, according to the product details. Choose this model if capacity and built-in bag storage matter more than touch-free opening. Its 20-gallon size may be more capacity than a smaller household needs.
SONGMICS 20-Gallon Soft-Close Bin
This SONGMICS bin is best for large households that want a 20-gallon capacity and a quieter-closing lid. Its step-on pedal allows hands-free opening, while the slow-closing lid is designed to reduce noise and sudden lid movement. The product information also describes its stainless steel body as rust-resistant and says a simple wipe can help keep it clean and smudge-free.
Choose it if a soft-close lid is a priority alongside large capacity. Compared with the EKO Hudson, the listed features emphasize quiet closure rather than rear trash-bag storage. The available product details do not specify an inner bucket or bag compartment, so avoid choosing it based on those features without checking the current listing.
EKO Mirage X 21.1-Gallon Sensor Can
The EKO Mirage X is best for buyers who want the largest stated capacity in this group and touch-free lid operation. Its 80-liter, or 21.1-gallon, capacity makes it a strong option for kitchens that generate substantial waste. A motion sensor opens the lid, and the fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish is intended to help the exterior stay cleaner-looking.
A press-to-open option can hold the lid open for 20 minutes, which may help when disposing of several items. Choose this model if avoiding contact with a pedal is more important than using a mechanical step mechanism. It may be a poor fit for shoppers who specifically want pedal-only operation; the listed features do not describe a foot pedal.
Amazon Basics 13.2-Gallon Step Bin
This Amazon Basics model is best for everyday home or office use when a 13.2-gallon capacity is sufficient. It has a smudge-resistant brushed stainless steel exterior, a soft-close lid, and a step foot pedal. The removable inner bucket and carry handle support easier emptying and handling, while the stay-open lid can be useful during longer cleanup tasks.
Choose it over the 20-gallon options if you prefer a smaller capacity and want a removable bucket. Its main limitation in this comparison is volume: it holds less than the large-capacity EKO and SONGMICS models, so it may require more frequent bag changes in a busy household.
EKO Madison 13.2-Gallon Step Can
The EKO Madison is best for buyers who want a mid-size bin that can serve as a trash can or a dedicated recycling container. Its single-compartment design holds 13.2 gallons and is suited to everyday recyclables such as cans, bottles, and paper, according to the product details. The fingerprint-resistant stainless steel exterior and soft-close lid add practical features for kitchens and offices.
The step pedal opens the lid, while a bi-force damper helps it close quietly. Choose this model if quiet operation and flexible use matter more than maximum capacity. Because it has one compartment, it does not separate trash and recycling within the same bin.
Buying Guide: How To Choose A Large Stainless Steel Trash Can
How much capacity do you need?
Capacity is the clearest difference among these options. The EKO Mirage X holds 21.1 gallons, while the EKO Hudson and SONGMICS models each hold 20 gallons. The Amazon Basics and EKO Madison bins hold 13.2 gallons. A larger capacity can mean fewer bag changes, but consider how much space the bin will occupy and how quickly your household fills a bag.
Should you choose a pedal or sensor lid?
A step pedal opens the Hudson, SONGMICS, Amazon Basics, and Madison models. This is a direct choice for buyers who prefer foot-operated opening. The Mirage X uses a motion sensor and includes a press-to-open stay-open option. Compare the listed operating style with your routine; the products do not all open the same way.
Which cleaning and convenience features matter?
Look for details that address your main daily task. Fingerprint-resistant finishes appear on the EKO Hudson, Mirage X, and Madison, while the SONGMICS listing describes an easy-to-wipe, smudge-free surface. The Amazon Basics has a removable inner bucket and carry handle. The Hudson has a rear trash-bag storage compartment, and the Madison and SONGMICS feature soft or slow lid closure.
